Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the US. Leagues are popping up left and right. Some are serving youth lacrosse and their families well – others are not. Organized sports have become greedy money machines that hopeful parents feel obligated to pay into in order to offer their children a fair chance at playing the sports they love.
There is also a cultural shift away from the values of team, sportsmanship and camaraderie. Kids receive trophy’s for showing up. They jump from team to team with no loyalty or sense of belonging. They play for themselves and never feel the elation of being part of something bigger than themselves.
At Evolve, we don’t believe that youth sports should be about pay to play or my child above all others. We believe that sports should still be about going outside to play with your friends and forging the best friendships of your life. These are the “wonder years” of youth. Is that the experience your child is having?
Passion should drive our youth, not money. While having the time of their lives, they can also receive the best coaching and mentorship possible.
“That is the way I grew up playing, and it worked out pretty well for me.”
